I listened to all the books and then started from the beginning again and listened through twice. The narrator was fantastic as well.
I couldn't stop listening. Having read this book before i knew how good it was already, but ive been wanting to give audio books a try and this is the book i chose to begin with.
I never knew how good an audio book could be until listening to this one. It was as if i had never read the book before from the way it was narrated, so beautifully done. I was always waiting eagerly to listen again after work or when i was with family and friends. I cant wait to experience this trilogy again in a whole new way! Excellent all around. I couldn't wait and ordered the second in the series before A Discovery of Witches ended so I could move right on with the story.
Will do the same at the end of the second installment and order The Book of Life. The narrator was outstanding. My favourite series of recent years' bookabookshop. In what ways, if any, does Diana reflect your own experience or personality? There are some similarities - Diana is also a historian of science, also interested in the history of alchemy, and shares some of my passions including television cooking programs, tea, and rowing. Really, all the characters have some element of me in them. I think that's how authors create imaginary people who nevertheless feel real.
The rest of Diana's character comes from a combination of qualities I admire in others, wish fulfilment, and my completion of the following statement: 'Wouldn't it be great if a heroine in a book was.
Travel to the streets, shops, back alleys, and gardens of Elizabethan London, where a boisterous and diverse group of men and women shared a keen interest in the study of nature.
These assorted merchants, gardeners, barber-surgeons, midwives, instrument makers, mathematics teachers, engineers, alchemists, and other experimenters formed a patchwork scientific community whose practices set the stage for the Scientific Revolution. While Francis Bacon has been widely regarded as the father of modern science, scores of his London contemporaries also deserve a share in this distinction.
